Pirelli has long been a well known name in tire manufacturing around the world. ยป More Photos

In a truly ultimate test of performance, taking it to the max at Maxton, North Carolina, land-speed racer Bill Warner set four official land-speed records at way, way over 200 mph. At the late-June East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) event, Warner set these records on a naked Suzuki Hayabusa, taking full advantage of the only for-real Z-rated radial performance muscle tire, the Diablo XXL 240. But please note, Pirelli Tire does not encourage or authorize the use of its tires at speeds exceeding their ratings.

The classes in which Warner set these records include;
M/BG 1650/4 at 230.521 mph
M/BG 2000/4 at 243.889 mph
M/BG 3000/4 at 240.519 mph
M/BF 3000/4 at 246.778 mph

Warner rode his Team Wild Brothers 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa to these records without any bodywork on the bike, preferring to set these records in classes for naked bikes. Yes, Warner has an officially recorded speed of 246 mph without a fairing! Warner said, “I tell girls I'm the fastest naked man in the world.”

“The wide Diablo XXL gave us a performance advantage with its wide foot print. Other guys were getting tire spin at the high speeds but that wasn't a problem for us. And other brands were shredding but we were able to run the tires all day and still have tread remaining for a ride out to a bike night back home.” You might see Warner on the street on his Hayabusa in Wimauma, Florida, where he sometimes attends bike
night at the local Quaker Steak and Lube.

This is Warner’s fourth year at competing for land speed records, starting out on a normally aspirated Yamaha VMAX that was tuned to break the 200-mph barrier. “I rode that bike at Bonneville and did 198.4 mph, setting a record in the AMA/FIM-sanctioned Bub event at over 195 mph. No one thought a VMAX could go that fast,” said Warner. At Maxton though Warner has broken the 200 mph barrier on the VMAX.

Warner’s Hayabusa has a single Garrett GT 35R Turbo, and internal engine work to make sure it all stays together. At the upcoming September ECTA meet at Maxton, Warner hopes to break the 250 mph barrier for an un-faired motorcycle. To check out his progress visit: www.Wildbros.com.
