Joining the 200mph Club

First becomes second, second becomes third, and the top end of fourth gear has the big black Busa traveling at close to 169mph before I select fifth. Hoping I have counted correctly, I push the nitrous button and an extra 100 horsepower is put to the rear tire, noticeably accelerating the bike even at this speed. The shift light comes up fast, and keeping the throttle pinned it’s time to hit sixth and get back onto the juice. The sound is incredible, the roaring wind threatening to tear any part of my leathers left exposed off my body. Staring through the windshield is like looking down a telescope the wrong way, as I force myself to accept that the white line in the middle of the track goes straight though the timing lights. The rest of the world
is a blur. Tightening my body closer to the bodywork, I twist the throttle harder yet while pushing on the nitrous button some more, as if the extra pressure will give me more speed. In all the excitement I am a little slow with this move, but have no time to worry now. Breaking the first timing light I fight the overwhelming urge to shut the throttle, and hopefully make it past the second light before I set about the business of slowing down. This is the hardest part of the mission and I have no idea if I have succeeded in my task. My heart is pounding, and the rush of air as I sit up after getting on the brakes is almost as wild as maxing out a 280 horsepower nitrous oxide-injected Busa. Now I have to see if we have topped the 200mph mark?
