Side Kicks by Rush Racing.
Terry Daniel and Lou Pringle, the Owners of Rush racing have become famous for developing top flight exhaust systems for Harley-Davidson and metric cruiser bikes for decades now. But they recently brought to market a product they didn’t design themselves, but will probably make Rush Racing famous in a whole new area of motorcycling, and with a different demographic . . . those riders of a certain age who are looking for a little help in prolonging their riding enjoyment.

After a friend of Daniel had to have a hip and a knee replaced, he wasn’t confident that he still had the strength to ride his Harley Ultra Classic anymore, especially with his wife on board and for slow speed maneuvers. So he decided he’d have to get a Harley trike. He hated that idea because of the huge expense, as well as the fact that they aren’t as much fun to ride as a two-wheel motorcycle.

But Daniel had seen a device called Side Kicks and thought this would be the solution for his friend and for anyone who wanted the freedom of 2-wheels when riding, and the stability of 4-wheels at very slow speeds and when stopped.

Side Kicks are tubular bars with footpegs and small wheels, which attach to the highway bars on each side of the bike. When you come to a stop you simply push down on the Side Kicks pegs which lower the outrigger wheels to the ground in order to steady the bike. It requires much less force and strength to keep the bike steady than if you had to place your feet on the ground directly. And when you accelerate away from a stop, you simply put your feet back on the bikes floorboards and the Side Kicks spring-load adjustable wheels retract off the ground. The wheels are not intended to be on the ground while the bike is going down the road at speed.

However, for slow speed maneuvers in parking lot situations, the rider can lower the wheels to roll on the pavement, to give himself some extra stability for tight U-turns and such, or for backing up if the bike is equipped with a reverse gear. And they can even be deployed for those slow speed, sharp hard right turns while pulling away from a stop sign, stop light, or out of a driveway.

Side Kicks are easily installed, with simple tools, and are made to readily adjust the height of their footpegs for a comfortable ride and ease of deployment. The rider simply pushes down on the footpegs to deploy the wheels, and removes his feet to retract them. The wheels only touch the ground when the rider applies force to the pegs.

A significant number of riders are getting older, and many of them find themselves in situations where they’re not as confident in maneuvering a 900 pound motorcycle any longer. Side Kicks can now extend a rider’s two wheel enjoyment for years. Also, there are many war vets with leg injuries that make it hard to ride a heavy two wheel motorcycle. Now instead of having to go buy a $40,000 trike, an investment of only $1,100 for Side Kicks will keep their knees in the breeze, and a smile on their faces.

Jerry “Motorman” Palladino the famous 20-year veteran Motor Patrol Officer with the Tampa Police Department who now trains both police and civilians with his riding clinics and videos, uses Side Kicks as a training tool in his classes. “Many students benefit from Side Kicks while learning slow speed maneuvers, because it gives them the confidence to know they won’t drop their bikes while in training. And I can see this as a great product for those experienced riders with the skills to ride a motorcycle, but who just lack some of the leg strength to hold up a heavy touring bike,” said Palladino.

So I think Side Kicks is a great solution to growing problem for many riders. Go to the web site at www.rushracingproducts.com and look at the video of how the product works in action. You’ll be just as impressed as I am.
