After 25-years Leatherman continues to fulfill their brand promise with the introduction of the first Leatherman LED lights this fall. The new Serac™ line of keychain and pocket-sized LED lights will provide users with the highest performance-to-size ratio available, at a pocketbook-friendly price point.
"Lighting was a natural next step for us", says VP of Engineering, Ben Rivera. "If you ask people what they carry on adventures or on the job, besides a multi-tool or knife, most of them mention a light. We've actually been making some of our sheaths to accommodate a keychain flashlight for years now."
Rivera and his team developed three models: the S1, S2 and S3 that all deliver on the Leatherman brand promise. "The technology was out there", says Sr. Design Engineer Jeff Caniparoli, "but we wanted to do something with it no one else had. Take the most popular sizes, give them output never before seen in that size, and all for a price point that really didn't exist."
Output Regulation through Advanced Circuitry
Instead of light degradation starting immediately after the light is first turned on, Serac lights maintain strong, consistent output for hours before gradual light dissipation begins. In addition, the power regulation design was configured in such a way that only one battery is necessary for operation of up to 100 lumens (S3 model).
Functional Design with Purposeful Extras
Minimal size with maximum power is only the beginning. With finishing details like tail switch operation, brightness-setting adjustment can be done with one hand;
Three Models: Serac S1, S2 and S3
The Serac S1 and S2 are keychain-size flashlights, the S1 delivering 6 lumens and the S2 delivers 5 and 35 on its two settings. The Serac S3 is a pocket-size flashlight and at only 3.2 in. and 2.6 oz., it delivers a powerful 7, 43 and 100 lumens on its three settings. All three lights have machined-aluminum reflectors. In addition, the S2 and S3 reflectors are textured for a superior, article-free light pattern and both have an anti-reflective coated glass lens. MSRP on the S1 is $25.00, the S2 is $50.00 and the S3 is $70.00.
