For years, River Road Gear has been known for making high quality cruiser luggage and fine leather jackets, chaps, vests and pants. So when they partnered up with the Grateful Dead to put the Dead logos on their motorcycle jackets and vests, I knew they would start with superior garments before the embroidery went on.

The jacket, with the “Skull & Roses” emblem, (there are three other embroidered logos to choose from), is made from premium leather that is both strong enough to be protective, yet soft and supple for comfort. There are two zippered hand warmer pockets, which are large enough to hold my gloves, and two large zippered air vents on the front of the jacket. I was surprised at the volume of air those vents will catch, and then exhaust out of the two zippered outlets in back. This is a great jacket for even warm weather riding.

The “action back” gussets and the shaped sleeves, make for a comfortable fit while your arms are outstretched on the handlebars. And zippers will snug the jacket at the wrists to keep the wind out.

The quilted, full sleeved liner (with the Grateful Dead logo ghosted all over it) has two built–in pockets designed to hold a cell phone or MP3 player, and the other can store your wallet or other items. And there is a zippered inside breast pocket which was large enough to hold my sunglasses in their case. The sleeves of the lining attach, so the lining won’t pull out when you remove your arms from the jacket, and the lining is also secured near the bottom of the jacket so it won’t ride up on you, which was another nice touch.

And when you zip out the quilted lining, you get a comfortable mesh lining with the same kind of pockets the quilted liner had. And best of all, you get removable and upgradeable, EVA foam armor in the shoulders, elbows and even a back protector, which you aren’t even aware that it’s in there.

This is a great year-round jacket that is worth every penny even if it didn’t have the Grateful Dead logo. Casey Jones would be proud to ride that train, or go truckin’ down the road in this jacket.

The prices range from $349.95 from size 40 to size 46. Sizes 48 & 50 is $379.95. Size 52 is 397.95, and size 54 is 409.95 I suggest ordering a size bigger if in doubt. Visit the web site to see all the logo options at www.riverroadgear.com

Since River Road products are distributed by Tucker Rocky, virtually every motorcycle shop can order for you.

Grateful Dead Steal Your Face Vest

This vest features a large Steal Your Face embroidered logo on the back and a smaller one on the left front. (The vest is also available with Skull & Roses design) The premium leather is soft and supple, with a 3-snap front. A unique feature, are the two side pockets that zip closed so you can actually carry something in them securely when riding. The lower sides of the vest have a laced adjustment for a tailored fit. It is fully lined with Grateful Dead logos ghosted into the fabric. No Dead Head should ride without one of these showing off his enthusiasm for the band.

The Vest comes in sizes SM thru XL for 149.95. In sizes 2x 3x 4x the vest sells for 164.95. I would advise going a size larger if in doubt. www.riverroadgear.com
