Developed for the Air Force, now adapted for the rider; the e-Tint® LCD motorcycle insert is the world's first insert with electronic tint on demand. (Photo: e-Tint)
Now here’s a very cool bit of technology. The E-Tint LCD visor is an insert for your motorcycle helmet visor that will change from clear to tinted in the blink of an eye. And, it will work on any helmet with a face shield. .

The visor runs on a tiny rechargeable lithium battery which is contained in a very tiny switch inside the visor, and can also be operated by an even smaller switch on the outside of the visor. The AX-10 model that I tested also can operate fully automatically in changing light conditions because it uses a tiny photo electric cell to sense the light and adjust itself. So you can enjoy the dark tint while riding, and the instant you ride into a tunnel or under a dark bridge overpass, the shield will change to clear, for better sight. Once out into the sunshine again, it will instantly return to the tint to protect your eyes from the sun. Now you can ride all day and night, without having to change face shields, or wear and carry sunglasses.

The technology was developed for the Air Force, and is now adapted for motorcycle riders. It is unlike photochromic technology, such as is found on the eyeglasses I use, because that takes a few minutes to go from clear to tint. Other electrochromic systems use more power to operate, which would require heavier clunky power sources. The E-Tint system’s LCD technology allows the battery to be miniscule, and to change the tint in the blink of an eye. A full charge through the supplied USB power cord may last for up to 20 hours. And there is a fail safe mechanism, in case you run out of power, which defaults the visor to clear.

It takes only a few minutes to install, and without any tools. Simply locate and center the supplied vinyl template on the outside of your shield, and then peel off the tape on the perimeter of the E-Tint Visor, and line it up with the template, and press into position. Also, the visor is a double lens thermal product with an anti-fog coating, so that it can be used in all weather conditions and keep a clear view for the rider. And with just a touch on one of the buttons, it can go from automatic to manually operated.

This is an excellent product that any rider will enjoy using, and it will really wow your riding buddies.

The MX-8 model is manually operated, and sells for $129.99. The AX-10 model I tested can be both manually or automatically operated and sells for $149.99. They also make AX-10 Arai model that fits Arai helmets unique face shields, for $149.99

You can order yours by going to www.etintproducts.com. The web site is also really cool and has some great videos so you’ll get to see exactly how it works.
