Over the past 16 years, Cycle Care has developed 10 totally new products to precisely address the specific needs of the motorcycle
Over the years I have used and tested many different motorcycle cleaning and care products, and I’ve been pleased with most of them. Some were easier to use than others, but most seemed to do the job they were intended for. Except one time, I used a product on a windshield, and it really caused havoc. It clouded the shield and pretty much ruined it. Since then I have been very wary about using anything but water on my windshields or helmet face shields other than water.

But I had the opportunity to talk to the owner of Cycle Care Formulas, and he spent some time with me explaining his family of products, and how they differ from many other products on the market, and I’ve had the chance to use several of them and I am very satisfied with all the products I’ve used. I believe I can now settle down to this one brand for all my cleaning and maintenance needs, and feel totally safe with any of them.

First, Cycle Care products were designed specifically for motorcycles, not adapted from car products. So no ammonia, alcohol, or petroleum distillates (like lighter fluid) are used in any of his products. Those ingredients can be especially harmful to clear plastics like windshields and face shields and clear coat paints. They also don’t use silicone products that are not UV protective, and they are water soluble, which means they wash off easily.

Cycle Care products use resins which offer the same shine and wet sheen qualities as silicones, but they are UV protective and non-water soluble, so they last much longer. And those resins are safe for any surface of every motorcycle. So if you’re using their wash or quick shine products and they get on the leather, vinyl, plastic, rubber, or Plexiglas, it won’t harm anything. Even the mag wheel cleaner, which is strong enough to just spry on and rinse off, still won’t hurt anything else on the bike.

The original color of the mag wheels on my Ninja 650R was dull gunmetal grey. Because I’m lazy, I never cleaned them, and as the brake dust and gunk built up, they just became a darker shade of grey. It didn’t matter much because the bike is silver, so it blended in. This morning I decided to put Cycle Care’s NEWMAG product to the test and wash away 5 years of built up grime. I was skeptical.

I followed the directions to just spray it on the wheels, hubs, rotors and calipers, wait a few minutes, and with a high pressure hose nozzle, simply rinse it off. IT WAS AMAZING! The grime just rinsed off. No scrubbing, brushing, or any physical touching of any of the parts. There were a few small areas of the rear wheel, that still showed a little grime, but a second targeted application got it off easily. I took before and after photos, but you can’t tell much from the pictures. But in person, the difference was truly remarkable.

Buoyed by the ease of the wheel cleaner, I used their Bike Wash Concentrate to wash the Ninja. Easy to use, and rinsed fairly spotless. But after that I used their Spray & Wipe instant Cleaner Detailer and polish, and that worked great on the bike, getting bugs off the shield, and on my helmet face shield, and leaving the bike with a glass smooth wet shiny sheen. Just spray it on, and wipe it off, and it cleans and polishes in one step.

I also liked their leather, vinyl, and rubber conditioner for my seat, saddlebags, floorboard inserts, shift levers, and cables. It’s also a one step spray on/wipe off product. And what I really like, is that is doesn’t leave everything with a greasy feeling. It restores the luster to the bags and seat, but it isn’t slippery. And again, if some overspray gets on the paint, or chrome, there’s no damage.

Cycle care has other products specifically designed for satin paint bike finishes, or engine cleaners for black and silver engine finishes, white wall tires, and other things. So, they have a product for any need you might have to clean, polish and detail your motorcycle. If you dealer doesn’t stock the Cycle Care Product you want, they will be able to order it for you. And their prices are competitive with their competition.
