GEARBAG: Battery Tender 4-Bank Charger

Anybody who has ever owned a motorcycle has surely heard of Battery Tender. In fact, the Deltran Corporation has been making and selling millions of them for so long, that most people who talk about any battery charger, use the term Battery Tender to describe one – just like they say Kleenex, when they mean a disposable tissue. Only a Battery Tender isn’t a single use product. It will last for years. I bought one on the day I bought my first bike over 15 years ago, and it’s still going strong.
What separates a Battery Tender from other “trickle chargers”? Simply put, the Battery Tender will put a constant charge into any lead acid battery, and when that battery is fully charged, it will automatically drop the voltage to a maintenance/float level at a very low current, and maintain that for an indefinite time period to keep the battery at full charge. But unlike other so called “trickle chargers”, the Battery Tender can’t overcharge the battery and damage it.
As I said, my original Battery Tender is still going strong, and I bought a second one when I got my second bike. I keep it on my motorcycle batteries, constantly, even during the riding season. Then about every two weeks or so, I hook one up to my car batteries, to keep them in top shape as well. By using the device throughout the year, I never let my batteries get weak, which can lead to a battery becoming resistant to accepting a full charge. By doing it this way, my batteries last longer. While friends of mine get only 2 or 3 seasons out of their motorcycle batteries, I get 4 or 5 seasons. And my wife’s car battery lasted 6 years. So I’ve saved a lot of money over the years by extending the life of my batteries. And I don’t worry about getting stranded by a dead battery while out on the road.
