Add to the mix beautiful fall weather and a USDesmo club weekend, and there are few better experiences to be had on two wheels.

Roebling Road Raceway is located just twenty miles from the beautiful, historic town of Savannah, Georgia. Consisting of nine flowing turns, and a super-long front straight that will let you air out even the fastest of Superbikes, it has to be the most fun two miles of asphalt in the country. Add to the mix beautiful fall weather and a USDesmo club weekend, and there are few better experiences to be had on two wheels.

Owned by our good friend, Jim Calandro, US Demso puts on club track events that are not just confined to Ducatis, although they are the predominant brand. So I loaded up our long term GSXR1000, joined my buddy Tom Blocker who rides a new Ducati Panigali, and my friend PJ with his Suzuki SV650 and rolled south. Over the next two days we enjoyed fantastic riding, and met up with a lot of club members who have become great friends over the years. The event is one the best run and laid back track events I attend every year and it feels like you are at your own private club day it’s so personal. There are plenty of qualified instructors on hand for the novice riders, and BMW ambassador Nate Kearn showed up to help some of the faster riders pick up a few tips.

Wild Man Alfredo Braca brought his Ducati Desmosedici, and in a momentary lapse of reason agreed to let me ride it for a few sessions. It was an incredible experience and one that Jim Calandro and the other Ducatista enjoyed. Hopefully, listening to it’s blood curdling roar as I circulated the track made up a little for having to put up with me for the weekend. It’s not an easy motorcycle to ride, but the way it can suck the paint off a 1,000cc sport bike down the front straight was about as eyeball popping as putting on the brakes for turn one somewhere north of 170 mph.

Our good friend, Kevin Schwantz School instructor, Harry Vanderlinden, joined us for the weekend, and he took some laps on the Desmo as well as our Gixxer. Big thanks to Jim for having us and if you live in the south east and own a Ducati check out the club website at http://www.usdesmo.com/ With track weekends, weekend rallies in the mountains, and all the best tips and information you can find about Ducatis, it’s a great place to make friends and have some fun. And, make sure to sign up and come join us next year, you won’t have a better time on two wheels
