Iconic Italian scooter manufacturer launches “Vespa Helmets are for Everything” Facebook photo contest

Piaggio Group Americas, the U.S. importer of the world-famous Vespa® motor scooter is continuing its efforts to protect riders on the road and promote motor scooter safety with the launch of a new consumer helmet promotion and Facebook photo contest. Riders who purchase a new Piaggio or Vespa motor scooter will receive a free Vespa Soft Touch or Piaggio Copter helmet. The promotion titled “Vespa Helmets are for Everything” runs from January 27 – April 30, 2011 in dealers and on VespaUSA’s Facebook fan page www.Facebook.com/VespaUSA – where riders are encouraged to upload creative ideas for helmet use when not on the road.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) notes “The effectiveness of appropriately designed motorcycle helmets that meet Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations in preventing and mitigating head injury is unquestionable.” To prove, once again, Piaggio Group’s full commitment to rider safety, they have decided to launch the free helmet consumer promotion and Facebook photo contest.

To help bring awareness to the safety aspects of wearing a helmet, the Piaggio Group also announced a Facebook photo contest on their VespaUSA’s fan page www.Facebook.com/VespaUSA for the scootin’ public as they eagerly wait for riding season. From now until April 30, 2011 riders are encouraged to upload creative ideas for helmet use when they are not riding. Piaggio Group is not encouraging riders to impact the integrity of the helmet rendering it useless when riding, but merely offering a humorous spin to gain awareness of a very serious topic.

“We fully support and appreciate the NTSB’s efforts to educate the riding public about their safety and created this program with one person in mind, the rider,” said Paolo Timoni, President and CEO of Piaggio Group Americas. “Our free helmet promotion is designed to spark the safety conversation among riders and potential riders.”

Each helmet is constructed with the same legendary fit and finish as the iconic Vespa and Piaggio scooters. Vespa Helmets Are For Everything
In honor of la dolce vita (the sweet life) and fun, free, adventurous moments in time, Vespa USA launches the “Vespa Helmets are for Everything” Facebook photo contest. From Jan. 27 to April 30, 2011, riders, enthusiasts and those with an out-of-the-box mentality are encouraged to start collecting Vespa trading cards and send in their best “helmet close-up” for a chance to win a free Vespa helmet and other merchandise.

- Trading Cards - Vespa USA will post one downloadable “Vespa Helmets are for Everything” trading card every Tuesday on the Vespa USA Facebook fan page, www.facebook.com/VespaUSA . From snowball fights to fruit bowls and everything in-between, the trading cards tap into the creative ways riders can use their helmets when they’re not on the road.
- Upload Your Best “Helmet Close-up” - Whether it’s a kitten carrier or flower box substitute for a metropolitan brownstone, Vespa USA wants to see ways riders are getting the most mileage out of their helmet. Every Friday, the most creative “helmet close-up” will be showcased on the Vespa USA Facebook fan page and the creator will be awarded a free Vespa or Piaggio helmet and other merchandise.
