2012 Harley-Davidson FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom.
What’s the best deal on a Harley big-twin? In my humble opinion, it has to be the Dyna Super Glide Custom in basic black with an MSRP of $12,999. For that amount of money, you get a nicely chromed out twin cam 96 motor and of course, a six-speed transmission, laced wheels, chromed out tank mounted instrument console and a liberal amount of chrome sprinkled throughout the bike.
With a low seat height of just 26 inches and mid-mounted foot controls as well as pull back handlebars, even the short of stature will find this Dyna a fine fit. While the Dyna is equipped with the twin cam 96 rather than the 103 motor, since it weighs in at 650 lbs., it offers plenty of acceleration. Remember too, the motor is rubber mounted. That means it’s plenty smooth at any speed or RPM you’re likely to travel. Granted, it’s not as smooth as the FLH Models, but the vibrations that do reach the rider are certainly not objectionable.
Since the Super Glide Custom is built to a price point, it doesn’t come with a windshield, saddlebags, spot lights, etc. But of course, all these accessories are available from Harley’s catalog as well as the after-market. If you’re on a budget, you can accessorize or customize your Super Glide as your funds allow.
Don’t get the idea that the Dyna Custom is some kind of stripped down price leader; one look at the bikes’ styling, deep flawless paint job and chrome parts will convince you otherwise. How does it ride? Well hey, this is a big twin Harley-Davidson. It rides just fine, thank you. The flat torque curve combined with the fairly light curb weight of the Dyna Custom will move you out and away from traffic very quickly. The transmission ratios are perfectly matched to the bikes’ motor, you’ve got plenty of passing power at all speeds. Out on the Interstate, 6th gear has that sweet V-twin just purring along. On your favorite winding road, you’ll find this bike steers quite quickly with plenty of feel. While it’s lean limits are not at the top of the cruiser class, it is adequate, offering 29.5 degree to the right and 30.9 degree to the left. The difference being the exhaust on the right side which will scrape the ground just after the peg touches. At low speeds, the Dyna is very nimble and easily turns in less than 18 feet. Maneuvering through a crowded parking lot is a breeze on this bike.
So, what you get for your money is a state of the art cruiser with classic American style, plenty of power, and of course that classic Harley-Davidson rumble. The only option I’d add is ABS which includes the security system for $1,195.00.
