AMA: 2008 AMA Congress Convenes
Written by: AMA Communications
American Motorcyclist Association
Pickerington, OH

The 2008 Congress of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) convenes its 41st consecutive annual assembly today, Thursday, October 9, in Columbus, Ohio, for three days of discussion and voting on proposed rule changes to AMA Sports amateur racing programs and AMA Road Riding recreational activities.

"A great deal has occurred since we met one year ago," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "For one, the AMA has sold most of its Pro Racing properties to the Daytona Motorsports Group, and this development allows the Association to focus on improved services for amateur racing activities. Beyond that, we are expanding our benefits to AMA members, and feedback from the delegates will provide excellent direction for us as we develop future programs and services."

Dingman will address the Congress, as will AMA Board of Directors Chairman Stan Simpson. Special guest, Daytona Motorsports Group President Roger Edmondson, will also speak to the delegates.

Running concurrently with the AMA Congress on Saturday is the the nation's largest by-invitation-only show of classic and collectable motorcycles, the 7th Annual
Concours d'Elegance at the AMA's Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in Pickerington, Ohio. And on Saturday evening, the Museum's 2008 Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will take place at the Hilton Polaris/Columbus. For details about both Museum activities, visit www.motorcyclemuseum.org.

About the American Motorcyclist Association

Since 1924, the AMA has promoted and protected the motorcycling lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life and they navigate many different roads on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world's largest motorcycle organization with nearly 300,000 members, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists' interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations and the court of public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA sanctions more motorsports competition events than any other organization in the world. Through its Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the AMA preserves the heritage of motorcycling for future generations. For more information, visit www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com.
